The Other Zoo

An experimental micro-film shot and edited on my iPhone.

A few months ago I went to the old LA Zoo near the “new” zoo at Griffith Park with my kids to practice shooting video on my iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I’ve been watching YouTube videos on how to make short films on an iPhone. I decided to give it a whirl.

I didn’t do much in terms of prep. I wrote down the different gimbal moves and shots I wanted to practice. I made sure my phone was fully charged and on airplane mode so if anyone called me it wouldn’t interfere with my recording. I also made sure my DJI OM3 gimbal was charged and the app was updated with the latest firmware. Other than two crazy kids, some water, and a backpack full of snacks, we took a bunch of shots and explored a nearly 70 year old abandoned zoo.

I’m also learning how to edit. Instead of purchasing expensive software or downloading something free on my crappy computer, I decided to use LumaFusion and edit the video, including music and sound, on my phone.

I’m really happy with how everything turned out. My goal is to shoot more sub-three movies/videos and share them.

After watching the video, comment below and let me know what you think. Or, if you shoot vids on your phone, drop and link and share your work.
