Week 7: Review/Preview
Reflecting on progress for the week of February 15 through February 21, and previewing goals and tasks for the upcoming week.
Thank god that week is over!
Sometimes an imbalanced week of competing priorities can offer just enough clarity as to what your next steps should be. For me I think this week was a good cleansing of the mind. I still got some stuff done (not as much as I wanted).
Short weekly review/preview post today. Gonna get some much needed sleep and look forward to a new week of opportunity.
Successes for the Week
Tweaked character bios for my new pilot. I kinda lost a little steam lately with our trip to AZ and then trying to get back into a groove this week. I still managed to get some important tweaks done, especially to my MC and a few key secondary characters.
Wrote 2 blog posts. Seems frivolous at this point, but I’m going to find a groove that works for me. I actually sat down and brainstormed a bunch of blog posts I want to do as well as brainstormed some ways to improve the website. I got a few stories I want to post, but I’ve got to make some structural changes to the website for it all to make sense. Hopefully I can get that done in the next month or so.
Wrapped up more “lessons” on my craft course from ISA. Some really good stuff. Good reminder/refresher from what I learned at UCLA. It’s always good to just return to the foundation of writing a script - character, goal, antagonist, stakes.
Revised logline for THE NOISE WITHIN script. Also updated my Coverfly profile.
Misses
Not at least writing a short blog post daily. It’s hard to do because I post at the end of the night, and depending on how much writing I’m doing the blog becomes a throwaway.
Didn’t quite finish the character work - at least to the extent I wanted.
Did'n’t research the crossroads myth. Skimmed a few websites but didn’t take any notes that would inform my characters and their story.
Goals/Tasks for the Week
Writer’s group meets Wednesday night.
Accountability group meets Thursday night.
Wrap up the final tweaks on the character work for my new pilot and dive into my antagonist and really get that character’s intentions clarified.
Research crossroads myth. There’s a 90 min documentary on Netflix about the myth, specifically Robert Johnson and how he supposedly sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads in exchange for being able to play the guitar.
Submit to Screencraft’s Fellowship. I haven’t got a shot in hell at winning, but I figured I’d try anyway.
Gonna post something on this blog every day this week. Might just be a quick pic of me writing or reading or pulling my hair out.
