Another Day of Infamy?

I never thought I would live to see the American people storm the Capitol building and desecrate public property with such ignorance and unrestrained contempt for America’s traditions and values - however flawed they may be.
I sat glued to my TV all day watching the images pour in of camouflaged morons raid the Capitol building like it was a Foot Locker. The irony of their disregard on full display for the world to see. This is America in 2021…and probably beyond.
From a writer’s perspective, days like today are unproductive and confusing. For me, I spend most of my day trying to rationalize what I’m seeing take place while also focusing on the banality of daily life AND thinking about how to write my next script/story. There’s a tsunami of stimulation that makes forming coherent sentences and thoughts challenging.
And yet…
This is when writers of fiction are most needed - it’s our job to look at the truth of the moment and shine a mirror back to society so it may fix its ways. Our goal is to process current events and communicate the heart of the matter, which in this case may take some time to digest.
I’m not sure what this year will bring, but I know what the purpose of my writing is - to tell stories that make the world just a bit of a better place to live.
Today’s Accomplishments
Researched more managers for DADLY query campaign. My goal is to find a slate of “best fit” managers who I think would best match the tone and concept of DADLY.
Wrote bloglines for supporting characters for my new pilot. As part of my story development process I’m looking at each of the characters in my pilot to craft a logline. Every character is the MC of THEIR story, so crafting character-specific loglines helps to develop fuller character with more defined arcs.
Wrote a blog post reflecting a bit on today’s events and what it means for writers/creatives.
Tomorrow’s Tasks
Continue researching managers. I have about another week of research.
Write 3 shitty pages of my novella.
Focus on developing the complication of my MC’s journey and what that looks like in the pilot.
Revise teaser for THE NOISE WITHIN.
Write blog post about creativity and daily life.
